Young musicians from the Humboldt area wrapped up another festival experience on Monday.

The final awards show of the Humboldt and District Music Festival brings to an end a stretch of a few months of preparing for show time.

Adam Eichorst, a Grade 11 student at Humboldt Collegiate Institute, says that preparation begins when the year turns over.

"Anything after December we finish with Christmas music and then right in January you go to a lesson and it will be music festival time and you'll start picking your songs you have to learn and prepare for that festival."

Over 700 people took in performances over the three musical categories and the wrap-up concert.

Eichorst has been participating in the Humboldt festival for the last seven years and was the recipient of an Outstanding Piano Performance award at this year's festival.

He performed three times during the piano portion of the event, with two individual performances and a duet with Jenna Giddings.

That wasn't the only appearance he would be making at a festival, as Eichorst also participated in Lanigan's event.

He says there was a connection to the feedback received from Humboldt's festival the year prior.

"It was the same adjudicator there that we had in Humboldt last year, so it was good to hear her two years in a row and show her how I've progressed over one year," explained Eichorst. "The cool thing is she remembered me from Humboldt's festival last year, and so being able to give me tips that I did improve on from a year ago and tips to even further develop my playing."

Eichorst won two awards at the Lanigan festival, including the Musicianship award.

With the festivals he has attended so far, Eichorst says one of his favourite parts about each year is hearing feedback from the adjudicators.

"Sometimes they don't agree with what you have done with the music, but sometimes they really do," he noted. "They help you develop the little tweaks you put into the music, so they'll be able to help pull something out that they heard you trying to pull out, but they'll give you something to pull out even more and advance the music into something beautiful."

There were 162 entrants for Humboldt's festival, with over 400 performances in piano, band, strings and guitar and vocal, choral and speech arts.
