The Humboldt Music Festival kicks off Monday morning with it's 79th year.

The event runs for three weeks with the first week being for the band, string, and guitar portion of of the festival.

Patti Durand the president of the music festival told us what the first week of festival is all about.

"In the band, string, and guitar there are school bands from our region and in the district, various age levels, and various levels of experience and our adjudicator will review and give them some feedback in addition to it being a competition if there is more then one group in a specific category."

The band, string, and guitar portion starts at 9:30am at St. Augustine School Gym.

Durand told us what age range we can expect to be performing at the festival.

"Typically it goes up to adult hood around 18, but the majority is 5 or 6 and 17-18."

Each year, the festival concludes with awards and one final performance, according to Durand.

"May 1st is the final awards concert and there are scholarships awarded to the students who perform particular well in there chosen [category], whether it's instrument or vocal, the concert is the best of."

The final concert will be held at Marysburg Assumption Church at 2:00pm.
