Mosaic's Colonsay mine has been fined for violating Occupational Health and Safety legislation.

On Tuesday, Mosaic pleaded guilty to an incident from February 2014, where a worker's leg was crushed by a conveyor.

The mining company was charged with failing to ensure that all equipment was designed, constructed, installed, maintained and operated to safely perform any task for which the equipment is used.

Mosaic was hit with a fine of $85,400.
