Additional equipment and resources will be on their way to Humboldt Collegiate Institute, thanks to funding from Bolt FM and Discover Humboldt.

Both the band and drama programs at HCI benefit from the funding, with joint-use of the performance stage.

With previous funding, the school has been able to purchase several items to give the area a face lift, says drama teacher Glenda Lees.

"We have shelves now for the band instruments, we have dollies that the chairs and electric pianos sit on so that we can move the stage around very quickly. We bought curtains so that the stage is better covered for a performance. We bought guitars, and we also bought sound proofing for the doors."

There has been a rise in the number of students opting to take part in the band program.

"It's nice when you have a lot of kids coming into the program, because it takes pressure off the one or two kids in a section and they are more people that will fill in for them," Band Teacher Kate Wickenhauser stated. "It makes it really nice that there are a lot of students in band this year."

This year, the school will look to purchase more shelving, as well as signage, a spotlight platform, and a ramp which will make ease of access for removing heavier equipment like pianos off the stage.

"We have a beautiful facility here, and it's used as a teaching area, and a performance area, and all of these things just help make it a more workable space," Lees explained.
