The 2017 Saskatchewan Fire Chief of Merit award was brought here to Humboldt this past weekend by Mike Kwasnica.

The Saskatchewan Association of Fire Chiefs recognized Humboldt's Fire Chief with the honour because of his dedication and contribution to fire service.

"I have been involved with the Saskatchewan Association of Fire Chiefs for about ten years, I've been a co-chair for the public education division for about eight years, and we've been trying really hard to get initiative in Saskatchewan to bring some fire prevention trailers to the province, and we've just succeeded in getting our first trailer."

The trailers started off in Manitoba to get education out to the public on fire prevention said Kwasnica, "it's a trailer set up almost like a little house, it has a kitchen, it has a bedroom, it has an escape ladder, it has a smoke machine, a hot door, and a couple of LCD projection screens that they can play some videos as the kids are going through."

The fire department would be able to set up the trailer at different local events.

Kwasnica also extended his thanks to LeRoy's Fire Chief Paul Cockell for the nomination.

He said he didn't really expect to hear his name called, "I was actually very surprised, it's nice to receive an award like that, it's recognition from your peers about work that you've been doing within the fire service."

The fire department will be participating in the PARTY program at the Uniplex on Wednesday morning with a mock car accident at 9:30am.
