The Métis Nation of Saskatchewan presented a release applauding elements of the Throne Speech.

The release notes a provincial investment of up to $75-million dollars in Indigenous business is encouraging news for Métis in Saskatchewan. Delivering the Speech from the Throne, Lieutenant Governor Russ Mirasty outlined the government’s plans to provide financing for the Saskatchewan Indigenous Investment Finance Corporation.

Métis Nation–Saskatchewan (MN–S) President and Economic Development Minister Glen McCallum says, “We welcome this investment in Métis businesses and look forward to collaborating with the provincial government to develop this initiative and advance the strength of our communities.”

The release outlined the depth and breadth of the Nation’s involvement. Métis entrepreneurs in Saskatchewan are involved in every sector- including mining, forestry, tourism, and the energy sector- employing thousands of individuals and bringing in 100’s of millions of dollars a year to put back into communities and support local causes.

McCallum says, “Métis participation in Saskatchewan industry is among the highest in the country. We are pleased the Provincial Government recognizes that with this investment and is willing to work with communities to stimulate development.”

The Saskatchewan government says the creation of the Indigenous Investment Finance Corporation is in response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s ‘calls to action’.
