A course created to develop first aid responders for mental health is taking place in Humboldt on August 30th and 31st.

The City of Regina, along with The Mental Health Commision of Canada are conducting the course as a way to reach out to Humboldt in respect to the events on April 6th.

The course was created to develop first aid responders for mental health just as you would have a CPR first aid responder.

Jay Lamonte, one of the facilitators of the event said, "People won't talk about mental health traditionally in the same way they talk about physical health. What that does is it impairs people from reaching out and getting support form people, and access to care related to mental health services. It would be great to see a time where we speak about our mental health the same way we speak about our physical health."

"What we want to create is mental health first aid responders in the same way that people are first aid CPR responders. So they develop a comfort level and an ability to provide mental health first aid for those people that are having an acute mental health crisis or emerging mental health challenges."

The course is taking place at The Humboldt Uniplex and Convention Center.
