Due to an oil spill that allowed 250,000 litres of oil to leak into the North Saskatchewan River the City of Melfort and parts of the immediate surrounding area is under a Drinking Water Advisory.

SaskWater says they cutoff the intake at 12am Tuesday, they will start to draw water from their reservoir once contamination becomes a probability.  

The advisory is expected to cover Kinistino, Beatty, Star City, and Weldon as well.

The advisory is necessary to combat the spill that was first reported Thursday morning near Maidstone.
