Indulging in a Big Mac, or treating the kids to a Happy Meal went to a good cause in Humboldt on Wednesday.

McDonalds held their annual McHappy Day, which raises funds for Ronald McDonald Houses on a local level.

Manager of the Humboldt location, Kim Courchene says that they make it easy for customers to give back.

"We are offering the McCafe hot beverage, Big Mac and Kids Meal and one dollar from every one that we sell will go to Ronald McDonald House," she explained. "Also, the hearts are a dollar and there is also socks for five dollars."

Courchene has worked at the location since its inception in 2002 and says that it has been a record year for heart and sock sales.

"This year has been the most that we have ever done in 16 years in hearts and socks."

Funds raised at the Humboldt restaurant support the closest Ronald McDonald House to the city, which is Saskatoon.

Courchene says that eight families have been able to use the house so far this year.

"What it does, is, it helps those kids that have to be in the hospital and it allows their families to live across the street from the hospital and they don't have to stress or worry," she noted. "It's like a home away from home while their children are getting the medical attention that they deserve."

Money raised helps reduce the cost for families who have extended stays at hospitals. The Ronald McDonald House website states that the average family has to pay just $11.50 per night stayed.
