The resort of Manitou Beach, most often quiet in the winter time, came alive this past weekend with Winter Fest. The weekend festival provided residents and visitors with a host of activities.

Manitou Beach Rec Board member Chris Moffat was impressed by the turnout of several hundred people. Winter Fest has been going on for over a decade with visitors coming from far and wide.

Included in the festivities were the popular “crokicurl”, the outdoor game that combines crokinole with the skill of curling.

Local food vendors and craftspeople were on hand in the famous Danceland pavilion. Throughout the day, there were 50-50 draws which supported the Rec Board. Winners of the 50/50 draws were Doreen Foster and Doris Joiner.

The events rounded up with a crib tournament which paid out cash prizes. The card masters included:

First place – Robert and Daniel Smith - $120

Second place – Sharon and Bob Thibault - $50

Third place – Lorne Bradbeer and Gail Shirley - $30

The last place finishers, receiving a consolation prize of $20, were Bernie and David Toth.

Plans are underway for next year’s Winter Fest at Manitou Lake.
