Since 2005, Troy Lucyshyn has been helping out with skating in the area, assisting in anyway called upon to help out Skate Humboldt.

Lucyshyn was recently recognized for his efforts as a volunteer, being awarded the Skate Canada Saskatchewan Section Volunteer Award.

He says it was a shock to be given the honour.

"It was a complete surprise. Past recipients of the club have put in 20 some years and I was quite surprised I got it with only putting in 12 years."

Lucyshyn has worked many roles for Skate Humboldt and has recently expanded that to a regional level.

"CanSkate coordinator, promotions coordinator, treasurer, announcer at ice shows, test chair, and been the President of the club also," he explained.

"Although I'm not active with the club right now I am active with Skate Canada Saskatchewan as a regional coordinator helping out clubs in the region."

Lucyshyn says that part of his work as a regional coordinator involves trying to get and keep active volunteers.

"A lot of us get involved because our children are in it. For the volunteers who stay in it, they realize they can learn quite a bit and learn different skills and leadership abilities," he noted. "As more volunteers stay in it, they realize that there is a really good benefit for the community to have these programs."

As a regional coordinator with Skate Canada Saskatchewan, Lucyshyn assists an area that spans from Bruno to Wynyard and up from St. Brieux down to Drake.
