Those with winter travel plans will be happy to hear that low gas prices are expected to be sticking around for the rest of the season.

Senior Petroleum Analyst with GasBuddy Dan McTeague explained.

"For gas stations here in the province, prices are about 80 for stations to buy their fuel... Really, there isn't a lot of momentum on gasoline markets right now which isn't unusual for this time of the year because January is considered a very low demand month. So what you see, is what you're going to get for the foreseeable future."

Most Humboldt pumps are 90.9 to 92.9.

However, once springtime is here, there will be a few factors that will increase those prices at the pump. McTeague added.

"Even if oil and gas were to remain where they are on the global market unless we go into a global recession, we'll be looking at prices that are significantly higher come April. Factors being the carbon tax, shifting to summer blend and world oil gas prices... Get ready, because these low prices won't be here forever."

He noted there will also be a steady increase over the next few years, "(In April) We're going to see a 4.6 cent increase that will be permanently added at least for the next year. It will rise about 2.2 or 2.3 cents for the next three years after that, up to a total of about 12 cents more per litre."
