To kick off Library Week in Saskatchewan, the Reid-Thompson Public Library is holding a reading on Monday night.

Ernie Louttit, a former police officer with the Saskatoon Police, will be reading parts from both of his two published books.

Louttit describes what to expect from his presentation.

"I read a little bit, the preface of my second book just to set the tone. Then I just basically tell some stories and take questions, and it's been a pretty good process because people that are coming to the library are already engaged in reading and they know who you are. They want to hear what you have to say."

Louttit explains what got him interested in writing a book.

"I just teach by telling stories. I was in my 26th year of policing, and most of the time I was relating an experience to a couple of guys, good or bad, it didn't matter, as long as the lesson was there, but I'd pick up an unintended audience. Almost always, when I was done, someone would say 'Hey Sarge, you should write a book,' and I thought I've used a lot of luck points in my 26 years with the Saskatoon Police, and I thought maybe that's not a bad idea and it's a good way to go out of policing."

Louttit talks about the details in his books.

"It's an opportunity to give people a look at what I've experienced, and give people a different perspective or outlook on Police and emergency services, and the people that protect them and serve them everyday. It's kind of the insider view, I didn't hold back a lot when I was writing and actually surprised and sometimes shocked some people about what went on every day in as city like Saskatoon."

The reading will start at 7 o'clock.
