April 7th is officially Green Shirt Day in honour of former Humboldt Bronco, Logan Boulet. Not only will the day celebrate his life, but it also celebrates his generosity in having donated his organs. The date set to coincide with the one-year anniversary of the Humboldt bus tragedy. Schools and businesses are welcomed to celebrate the day on April 8th.

As outlined by Brenda Brown, President of the Canadian Transplant Association, "We're asking people to wear green and take pictures of themselves in and around their community, tag themselves with Green Shirt Day, but also, most importantly to register as organ donors and talk to their families about their wishes. And trying to recreate the inspiration that Logan brought last year with the 100,000 registrations that happened after his passing and his donations." That inspiring spirit of generosity has come to be known as the Logan Boulet effect.

Boulet's donation triggered a response through the country where registrations for organ donation were unprecedented. Brown confirms that the interest and the actual registrations of organ donations dwarfed previous numbers. She expresses her admiration, "It's just incredible how it's impacted all Canadians from coast to coast, and in the record numbers recognized in all the provinces that collect the data. It's been such an inspiration."

The Boulet family selected green as it is representative of organ donation, and fittingly, the colour of the Humboldt Broncos. Green Shirt Day is a joint venture of the Boulet family and Canadian Blood Services, in partnership with the Canadian Transplant Association.
