Where were you when the Twin Towers crashed downward?

It has now been 15 years since the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York and Pentagon in Washington DC took place.

Local resident Sheena Gerspacher has visited New York twice since 9/11.

She talks about the kids that will have to learn about what happened on 9/11.

"I think the thing is that kids are going to just have to unfortunately live in this era where stuff like that happens. Terrorism is on everybody's mind every day, I don't think at that point any of us could have thought that was something that could be happening in our world. Unfortunately that's going to be the first thing and then just learning about what their motives were, why they would do that, and all that stuff."

Gerspacher remembers exactly where she was that morning.

"I remember, I woke up in the morning and saw on TV that their had been a plane that hit the tower. Obviously I didn't really think much of it at the time, I honestly didn't even know what the World Trade Center was at the time, but I remember driving to school and just the radio stations saying all of the planes were missing and everything. Nobody really understood the magnitude of it until, well at least for me, until the afternoon probably. It was just crazy to think that something like that could be happening."

Gerspacher's visits were in 2012 and 2014.

She says the historical displays are definitely worth seeing.

"A lot of people think 'oh, it was probably really creepy or really scary there.' And I was like 'no, it was actually quite peaceful there.' Honestly you'd think that something with such a horrible background to it, would be that scary or creepy, but it wasn't. It was very peaceful."
