Scott Odelein farms near Quill Lake on a three generation operation which means a great deal to their entire family.

So you would have to think the Odelein's would do what's necessary to protect what they have worked years and years to earn.

That's the thoughts of many, perhaps all farmers across east-central Saskatchewan, the province itself or even the globe.

Farmers are proud, cut to the chase, break your back to bring it home type individuals who at times do things their own way. That has caught the attention of the RCMP. So has a Facebook page labelled 'Farmers with Firearms.'

The page was launched after a number of rural crimes, mostly on the west side of Saskatchewan created a stir considering the thefts involved criminals armed themselves.

Odelein, although not speaking for all his friends and neighbours believes our region for now is quite calm and content.

"Nothing around here, it's been safe and sound. We haven't seen anything out of the ordinary."

He added that even going back to his memory bank the Quill Lake area has been overly lucky with thefts and break-ins or the lack thereof.

"No, not that I know has it ever been a problem. Not in our area anyways."

Last week the RCMP held a news conference speaking on the topic with a strong message calling for peace and letting them do their jobs.

Odelein is optimistic that mindset can continue on the east side.

"I think people will stay pretty sensible, I believe there is a lot of good people out there. We're just hoping to not run into any trouble."

The RCMP are being extra conscious regarding the topic as harvest draws to a close, they ask that if you see any suspicious vehicles or individuals to contact them at your nearest detachment or you can always call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
