A local athlete has made history by becoming the first Saskatchewan Senior Girls Singles Bowler to win the National Bowling Championship.

Sara Thiemann says it was important to win the Championship and bring it back home.

"It was nice to represent Humboldt because Humboldt has never really been on the map until a few of us Bowlers started place more at tournaments and everything. So then to win it for Humboldt meant a lot because it shows that even from a small town you can still do it so that you don't have to come from a city."

She describes what it's like to become a National Champion.

"It's very hard to describe. It's like everything you've always worked for,  and then eventually it's finally true."

Sara also shares how she got involved in the sport.

"My family was very involved in it, like my Grandparents, and then my mom kinda sorta. But basically I just fell in love with it as a kid, and just stuck with it. And then I started doing good at tournaments, and then eventually it just became natural to be in Bowling."

Sara has bowled out of the Kemway Lanes in Humboldt since she was 5 years old.

Over the 22 games played on the weekend, Sara averaged 238.55 points per game.
