It was quite the ride for Bruno's Jason Leuschen but in the end he unfortunately won't be one of the nation's newest astronauts.

We heard from Leuschen back in February of this year when he was one of 72 talented Canadians vying for a spot on Canada's space team.

On Canada Day, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau named Jennifer Sidey of Calgary and Joshua Kutryk of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta as the two newest recruits at the celebration on Parliament Hill.

Leuschen says he's always been fascinated by the sky, as a young boy he would climb to the top of their family granary at Bruno to take in many Saskatchewan sunsets.

He now calls Ottawa home, he is currently a Royal Canadian Air Force pilot training to be a helicopter pilot.
