St. Gregor's Dallan Muyres, lead of the Saskatchewan men's curling championship rink is ready for the Brier. All indications are his squad is ready to go too.

The Nutana Curling Club, home to the Muyres rink, hosted a send-off for the Tankard winners on the evening of Tuesday, Feb. 26. The Nutana was packed with curling colleagues and well-wishers hoping for the Muyres team to end the Brier draught which has lasted since Rick Folk's quartet won for Saskatchewan in 1980. The Muyres squad is composed of Dallan, his brother Kirk as the skip, and the Marsh Brothers, Dan and Kevin. Brothers was the theme of the evening with the audience participating in a trivia quiz of Saskatchewan's most notorious curling brothers. While the send-off was greatly appreciated, the two sets of brothers are anxious to be in Brandon for the start of the event.

Dallan confirms, "We're anxious to get going. We had a practice weekend, we were throwing really well, we're feeling really confident right now. So let the games begin. That's where we're at right now."

Muyres acknowledges that this is not the first time in the show for him and Kirk, but the Marsh brothers are approaching the Brier with a fresh perspective. Dallan says, "It's really unique for Dan and Kevin to get to wear that green jacket in front of a great curling community in Brandon in the western provinces. We're going to have a lot of Saskatchewan fans there."

Although the Muyres brothers have seen action in Brier's past, there is one significant difference for them this time. They will be competing with the Muyres name on the placard. Dallan reflects on what that means. "I've had a couple comments from fans and family and friends back home. They said they've been waiting a long time to see the Muyres name up on the scoreboard again. So that brings a little something special to the game for Kirk and I. It's just going to be a little different this year; a little more weighty, a little more feeling, a little more passion behind this right now." The Muyres name was last up on the scoreboard at the Brier when Dallan and Kirk's father and coach, Lyle Muyres, won the provincial championship with his brothers Warren, Craig, and Garth.

The 2019 Brier in Brandon kicks off on Saturday.
