As previously reported, Leroy School was the recipient of a major cash donation thanks to Federated Co-op's Community Spaces initiative. On June 17, the staff, students and seemingly the entire community of Leroy packed the school's gymnasium for a celebration and luncheon.

Spirits were high as staff member Sheila Lissel and some senior students kicked off the noon hour festivities with a rousing rendition of "Baby Shark". The student body chomped along with the invited dignitaries led by Co-op's giant mascot, Cooper. A host of school staff, supporters and Midway Co-op representatives burst into the gym through a smoke effect to the Kool and the Gang's "Celebrate".

Midway Co-op's General Manager Nick Korouk made the onstage presentation of the cheque for $150,000 to Leroy School representative Alicia Richels. Richels spearheaded the application to Federated Co-op.

The funds are to be used to upgrade the school and community playground to modern standards. It will incorporate elements that will allow access for children of all abilities. Leroy School Principal Annette Zentner was delighted with the donation, "This Community Spaces grant is going to be a wonderful boost to our playground improvements, and we're trying to make it wheelchair accessible so play is accessible to all students in the school.'

With the donation in hand, work can start as soon as summer.
