This year looks to be a big one for Humboldt’s leisure services department.

Director Mike Ulriksen is excited for a decrease in the cost of leisure passes at the Uniplex. An adult monthly pass, for example, will go down to $40 per month from $72.

“What we're hoping to see is a lot more usage of our facilities which we all know will create a better, more vibrant, more healthy community both short term and long term.”

2017 saw work progress at the Centennial Park parking lot. Green space improvements are on deck for this year.

His department is also looking at bigger projects.

“We’ve got aging infrastructure we have to have a long term plan for, we’ve got things like cemeteries and urban forestry and some of those big ticket items that sometimes don’t get the attention they need long term.”

He also looks forward to finding community partners for projects such as an outdoor rink, trails and other amenities.
