Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a condition that continues to take its toll on veterans.

That's why Andy McAnally has put together the Paws for Veterans Gala, set to take place at the Royal Canadian Legion in Humboldt on Friday.

"The purpose of the gala is to raise funds to acquire specially trained service dogs to help Saskatchewan veterans," said McAnally.

"These dogs are specially trained and that's why they cost $10,000 each," he continued. "Some of the things they can do - they can waken veterans having night terrors, they can prevent emotional overload, they can also help veterans that have artificial limbs."

Troubling stats, and personal experiences in the line of duty are reasons why McAnally thought it was important to hold the gala.

"Serving in the military myself, I have that perspective. Also, when I find out that there is actually more service men and women that took their own lives than those who passed away from active service in Afghanistan."

Fifty-four veterans have taken their own lives since the conclusion of that mission.

The deadline to purchase tickets, which are available at Scotiabank, is Wednesday. All funds raised will then be matched by Scotiabank, and donated to Saskatchewan veterans.

If individuals would like to attend just for the entertainment portion of the evening they will be able to purchase tickets at the door starting at 8pm for $20.00.
