The Bruno Friendship Centre is fundraising to cover thousands of dollars in repairs after a leaking urinal flooded the building.

The leak was discovered in late June when a woman was met with water at the door when she came to play cards, board member Erna Glaser said.

“So it was lucky one lady happened to go in - and the urinal was just like a fountain, she said. It was just spraying out.”

Cleaners had to remove plasterboard from the ceiling and the basement, and floor tiles have had to be replaced, Glaser said. It’s not clear if the pool table will end up being warped.

The board was unaware the centre didn’t have flood insurance, Glaser said.

The centre is used mainly as a place for seniors to play cards or hold special events, though it’s also rented for birthday parties or anniversaries.

The board is offering tax receipts for donations of $10 or more.
