A Winnipeg man has received a sentence of three years behind bars for his role in the death of three teenage boys from Carrot River.

Normand Lavoie was sentenced in Melfort on Monday, where he was given three years in prison for each of the deaths, as well as one year for injuring a flagperson.

The sentences will be served at the same time.

Lavoie was also handed a five-year ban from driving once he is released from prison.

The three-year term will be served in a federal prison.

During the sentencing, the judge took into consideration Lavoie's low risk to reoffend, his remorse and clean driving record.
