Darcy Haugan, late head coach of the Humboldt Broncos, was posthumously awarded the Willie O'Ree Community Hero Award.

Haugan used the game of hockey as a tool to help shape young lives said his wife Christina Haugan who accepted the award on Haugan's behalf at the NHL awards in Las Vegas Wednesday evening.

Christina Haugan along with ten of the thirteen survivors were at the awards show along with their families. During the awards, a video tribute was also presented to honour the Humboldt Broncos, coaching staff, trainer, statistician, and play by play announcer.
