"For those who have walked these halls and are no longer with us."

These words are inscribed on a memorial sign that was unveiled in late October. The sign was placed in the courtyard of Lake Lenore School to honour former students and staff that have passed away.

It speaks of the tightly knit, family mentality when being a part of a small community and a small school. "There's a lot of advantages to being apart of a small school, it's very personal, you are part of a family. you have common goals and common accomplishments," said Ralph Viczko, Principal of Lake Lenore School.

The memorial sign, that was created by accomplished metalworker Tyler Dyer, went up to commemorate those accomplishments and those goals of many who have walked the hallways.

"It was a proud moment, but also a very solemn moment," said Viczko when asked about the feeling of the unveiling. "We remember all those people that were close to our school, contributed to our school in many, many ways, continue to be a part of our Lancer family and will be a part of our Lancer family forever."

Lake Lenore School lost a beloved former staff member, coach, and family member in Wade Waseen two years ago to a battle with cancer, whom the gymnasium is named after. More recently, Dayna Brons, who was the athletic trainer with the Humboldt Broncos and a Lancer alumni, passed away during the Broncos bus accident on April 6th.

Those two, among many others, will always be remembered as a part of the Lake Lenore family.

"Once a Lancer, always a Lancer."
