After almost ten years of dreaming, a top of the line integrated healthcare facility in Kelvington is now complete.

Thursday afternoon, the Kelsey Trail Health Region celebrated the finalization of the $15 million project.

Work actually began in 2014 to upgrade Kelvindell Lodge which is a long term care centre, they also added a hospital with acute, emergency and primary health services.

KTHR Authority Chair Rennie Harper(above) was on the board a decade ago when talks first began.

"The hospital here is four or five blocks away and so we started to talk with the staff about their space needs and all those kinds of things and people started to talk about what if they were one? Integrated health facilities had been tossed around a little bit and we thought it would be an ideal situation for Kelvington."

Residents were moved back into the centre this month.

KTHR CEO Shane Merriman(above) was also on hand during the event.

"It's a wonderful day today, it just brings everything to a conclusion in terms of the project. Really at the end of the day it's about working together, building relationships, it goes a long way to say that the health region along with the Ministry of Health and most importantly the community were able to work together and have a very successful project that will serve us long term."

The Government of Saskatchewan pitched in $12 million for the project, the local municipal partners contributed the other $3 million.
