When the City of Humboldt votes for a new Mayor and Council on Wednesday, one man hopes to remain as one of six councillors.

Larry Jorgenson is once again running for council in Humboldt. As a member of organizations such as JCI Humboldt and Arts Humboldt, Jorgenson says he likes to help out.

"Whether it’s Demolition Derbies, Christmas Tree Sales, Spray Parks, Performing Arts events, or supporting city staff when they want to move a paving project forward, I enjoy being part of the committee discussing the options," he said.

"I think as an Engineer, and my wife would agree, I tend to look at all the ways a project can go wrong and satisfy myself that the final decision is the right decision. I believe we need that kind of logical thinking process on council."

Jorgenson noted that many residents have talked about the city's lagoon.

"The last council was presented with a preliminary report regarding the current lagoon. I believe moving the lagoon project up in the capital project schedule may be necessary and an opportunity to avoid more costly work that will be needed if we defer. I expect that the next council will have to make some tough decisions regarding this."

He added that in helping Humboldt grow, the more amenities there are, the greater chance there is of people wanting to be in Humboldt.

"I think that a strong, vibrant community with good infrastructure and recreational facilities is the best incentive we can give to businesses looking to startup in Humboldt or existing businesses who want to expand or simply flourish," he explained. "To that end, I was pleased that we were able to make a commitment in the last budget to begin to commit funds to a much needed field house and auditorium complex."

Jorgenson is one of three councillors looking for a return to City Hall. Overall, there will be ten other names on the ballot for council.
