A world-renowned Saskatchewan artist whose primary media included canvas and sculpting has his works currently on display in our very own gallery. Fafard passed away on March 16, 2019.

Joe Fafard was born in Saint-Marthe, Saskatchewan, and has always been a true trailblazer in his field. Receiving a Business Systems Analysis degree from the University of Manitoba in 1966, and a Master of Fine Arts degree from Pennsylvania State University in 1968, he went on to instruct sculpting at the University of Saskatchewan from 1968 to 1974. After a lifetime of contributions to the world of arts, he was recognized by the government of Canada as an Officer of the Order of Canada. His entire life was devoted to art in its purest forms, and teaching and learning as much as he could about anything pertaining to it.

Jean Price, Museum supervisor went into detail about how lucky we really are to be viewing such great works.

"We were ultimately very fortunate to receive (Mr. Fafard's) works to display. I feel the works we have here really showcase his ingenuity and artistic skill."

Price also talked about the sculptures and paintings, and how they apply to our community.

"I think he took things and activities that are usually mundane living here in Saskatchewan and turned them all into things of beauty the world over will recognize."

The exhibit is open until May 23rd and features numerous paintings and two of Mr. Fafard's more famous sculptures.
