Jennifer Brooks is responsible for advancing municipal communications and community development initiatives with the City of Humboldt. She has just been re-elected for a second year with Saskatchewan Economic Development Association (SEDA).

Brooks explains what SEDA is, "it's really the only provincial organization that really works to grow the economic capacity in communities throughout the province."

SEDA has helped Humboldt with different things in the past, most recently the launch of Townfolio.

Brooks talks about how SEDA can help individuals grow professionally.

"In the fall of 2015 SEDA launched a professional certification program it's called PCED, Professional Community and Economic Developer, and that's something that individuals practicing economic and community development within the province can strive for, is provincial certification and professionalization of the work they do."

SEDA does a lot of networking and Brooks talks about the annual growth conference.

"Last year it was held in November in Humboldt, its called Annual Creating Intersections for Growth Conference, it's a chance to learn about what others are doing, best practices, unique examples, and again to chat with peers about what's working in their communities and what's not, what are their challenges, learning from one another. It's often a great learning tool."

Brooks adds what is upcoming with SEDA,

SEDA is a supporting partner of the main street program in Saskatchewan and our Humboldt downtown business improvement district was recently successful in becoming an accredited main street member so were looking to have SEDA support their efforts as they move forward with their downtown revitalization initiative and SEDA provides some coaching and other resources for that."
