People young and old flocked to Jansen Friday for the villages Canada Day Celebration.

The village is known for putting on a great event, filled with Slo-Pitch, kids rides, and a car show.

Bruce Elke from the Jansen Canada Day Committee says the event is well recieved.

"It's become our tradition and kind of our thing I guess in Jansen as we've done this for over 25 years now. Everybody expects us to do it and we enjoy doing it. It showcases our community and how we can get together as a small community for a big event."

Elke describes how their canada day has been so successful.

"I think the big thing is it's a family day. We really try to make it all free. Most of it is free, other than eating and drinking, everything else is a free activity for the families, The Slo-pitch is family slow pitch, and we have things going on all day."

Elke describes the usual plans for the Canada day evening.

"Our program is at 8 o'clockwhere we raise the flag. We have the Legion and the RCMP and they always do the honours of that. We (had) a guest speaker this year it's a fellow who immigrated fromBritain. We've had others, we try to find somebody from the area who has come to Canada and why they think it's Special."

Jansen has been holding the Canada Day Celebration for over 25 years.

The village expects anywhere from 600 to 1200 people for at least some part of the day every year.

Plans are in the works to make next years Canada Day celebration a three-day event to coincide with the Villages homecoming next year.
