Every year people come up with creative ideas for the Festival of Wreaths, says Jean Price, supervisor of the Humboldt and District Gallery.

“We have lots of businesses that bring in gift baskets of their products or gift cards for their services. Obviously Humboldt is such a huge quilting community so we always have loads of beautiful quilts and people have really gotten into gift baskets, so we have loads of really cool gift baskets and decorations. It’s amazing what people come up with every year.”

The festival kicked off Thursday. Money raised supports the gallery’s summer kids programs, concert series, art and literary events and exhibits.

The silent auction on 116 items runs through December 7, which will be the live auction for another 17 items. The gallery is opening at noon instead of 1 p.m. and will stay open until 8 p.m. on Thursdays.

Personally, Price is a fan of anything with lights on it. Another highlight is from volunteer bakers who will bring five trays of goodies on the day of the live auction.

“I think it’s loads of fun. It’s a really nice kickoff to the Christmas season for us,” Price said.

She thanks donors, sponsor Scotiabank and Bolt FM, which is hosting a contest for a gift certificate.
