As we celebrate workers on Labour Day, the Sask Party government continues to boast the best employment numbers in Canada.

Statistics Canada released it's August report, which showed that there were 4,000 new jobs in Saskatchewan, up 0.7% from July.

"We've seen employment up by 1,600 jobs year over year. We've also seen in this report the labour force at an all-time high, and more people working in the month of August than ever before," said Minister of Immigration, Jobs, Skills and Training, Jeremy Harrison.

"Despite the challenges that we know we have in terms of the energy sector, we're continuing to create jobs and continuing to create opportunity here in Saskatchewan."

More young people are working in the province than across Canada as well, with the youth unemployment rate sitting at ten per cent, which trumps the 13.1 per cent rate nationally.

Harrison touted the government's investments in education to help more people find work.

"We continue to make significant investments into education, adult basic education, very significant investments into apprenticeship training," he stated. "We know that we still have labour challenges in certain skill trades, so we're making record investments into apprenticeship training as a government."

"We're continuing to work with employers to make sure that they're able to fill jobs that they need, and creating the economic environment that will allow them to continue to grow their business and be successful."

For the 23rd straight month, Saskatchewan had the lowest unemployment rate in Canada at 4.7 per cent - down from the national rate of seven per cent.
