Community leaders and business owners across east-central Saskatchewan are being invited to join the Mid-Sask Municipal Alliance for workshops.

The workshops will take place in Watrous and Humboldt on Thursday and Friday.

Director of Operations and Planning, Celine Favreau, says that they have a new opportunity thanks to funding.

"We received federal funding this year through the Invest Canada program to complete a business investment attraction strategy aimed at attracting foreign direct investment into the area," she explained. "The current members identified the need to take a more proactive approach to being investment ready by identifying key investment opportunities within the region's communities."

The Watrous Civic Centre will host one workshop on Thursday night, beginning at 6:30. It will be held in the Heritage Room.

On Friday morning, a workshop comes to the Humboldt Convention Centre in Room 3, beginning at 9:00.

With the tabled questions, Favreau notes they expect to gain more insight into how the area will continue to grow.

"The workshops will help us to document the region's leading strengths and assets that make it a good location for investment, including new investment opportunities and key emerging industries that will play an important role in the future of the region's economy."

She added that those who do attend will be able to have their say on the direction of investment and opportunity.

"They will have the opportunity to provide opinions on what actions the Mid-Sask region should take to capitalize on current investment opportunities and will have a chance to give their opinion on what would make the region more attractive to potential investors."

"They will also learn more about the region's investment attraction strategy and how to get connected up to a region wide network in support of the establishment of new businesses and keeping existing businesses currently providing services in our communities."

The alliance is made up of several Rural Municipalities and communities in the area, including the RM's of LeRoy, Morris, Prairie Rose, Usborne, Town's of Lanigan, LeRoy, Nokomis, Watrous and Watson. The Village's of Manitou Beach, Drake, Jansen and the City of Humboldt.
