March 8th is International Women's Day, and The Humboldt Reginal Newcomer Centre is celebrating not only female power but gender equality in its entirety.

The day consisted of two sessions, first from 10:00 AM to 11:30, and then again in the afternoon from 2:00 pm until 3:30. It featured a Body Talk Presentation, an introduction to Acupressure, as well as numerous talks and discussions.

A crowd of around 10 got into the activities, and there was a fair bit of questions being asked and group discussions taking place.

Janine Hart with The Humboldt Regional Newcomers Centre was adamant in explaining the importance of the events of the day.

"Today is all about gender equality. We really tried to bring in a quality line-up of people to support our Balance for Better campaign for 2019. Gender equality is a two-way street, and we really want to encapsulate that."

Hart also talked about how gender equality is actually a community effort.

"It is a community's role, to ensure that every woman (especially including those brand new to Canada or the community) feel safe and cared for, but most importantly feel they have an equal opportunity to do what they need to do."

The Humboldt Regional Newcomers Centre office was transformed into a positive meeting space for men and women alike and provided the basis for talks about equality in all aspects of life.
