Conservation officers are asking for help from the public in solving an incident of poaching near Naicam earlier this month.

Melfort officers received a tip regarding a mule deer buck that had been shot about 22 kilometres east of Naicam and 13 kilometres south of Kipabiskau Lake in the evening of June 9.

A new model, black, Dodge Ram 1500 had been seen driving away quickly from the field where the deer had been shot, returning to pick it up about 40 minutes later.

"Our officers did respond and collect what evidence they could, but they're looking for some public assistance in helping solve this," conservation officer Rich Hildebrand told Bolt FM.

Hunting seasons are in place to preserve wildlife for the future, he said.

"When people hunt out of season, it can affect our populations, and it also takes away from legal and legitimate hunters."
