Humboldt Soup Kitchen held a fast for hunger over the weekend.

The fast is a 24 hour period without food to raise awareness to hunger in our area.

James Folster is the Humboldt Soup Kitchen Coordinator.

He explains what made the fast important for those who participated.

"We're trying to make awareness of what it's like to be homeless and hungry. It is right here, even though Humboldt is a smaller community, we have evidence that it's right here. So we're trying to take it out to the public, and just let them know that even though our community is small, it still exists, and what we can do to help. Every bit counts."

Around 25 people participated in the first fast for hunger ran by the Humboldt Soup Kitchen.

Folster says people kept busy during the fast.

"We had board games here, we had a gentleman playing his guitar, so we had music, board games, kids played all kinds of games, there was singing, kids were telling jokes and stories. There were some kids here that never knew each other before, and now they're friends. We had no cell phones, no electronics, so they had to use their imagination and get along and play, and it was great."

No word yet on exactly how much was raised through the fast, but Folster did say results from the weekend were remarkable.
