Communities in Bloom is sprouting once again in Humboldt.

The city is looking for people to join the committee after taking a year to examine the program.

“Overall it’s just a way for the community to get involved in how our community looks and taking ownership of that,” leisure services director Mike Ulriksen said.

While Humboldt has had success in competition, including at the national level in 2016, this year Communities in Bloom will focus more on engaging the community, he said.

The committee will focus on six areas: tidiness, environmental action, heritage conservation, urban forestry, landscape and floral displays.

“It’s all about civic pride. It’s about fostering that within the community, and the beautification of the community as a way to attract people, to improve the overall quality of life within the community,” Ulriksen said.
