Building permits in Humboldt have rebounded after a disappointing 2016.

The city issued $13 million worth of permits in 2017, up from just $4.9 million last year.

Most of this year’s permits were commercial, including the new dental clinic, renovations to St. Elizabeth Convent and the new Horizon School Division office.

The city is still experiencing a drought of residential permits. They’ve hovered just over $1 million over the past two years, down from $13 million in 2015.

Community Development Coordinator Colby McClelland hopes the pace of residential development picks up.

"If we could reach around the $20 million, $24 million a year that would be really nice and a good sign of solid economic activity."
