The Humboldt Regional Newcomer Centre is planning to honour those who have helped make communities in the area a welcoming area.

The Building Communities Recognition Night is set to take place January 28th at Jubilee Hall.

Janine Hart is the Executive Director for Humboldt Regional Newcomers Centre.

She talks about the reason behind the idea.

"I guess over the years our organization has been here since 2010 and we work with such a large region that we really recognize that there's a lot of employers and schools and communities and individuals out there that really do a lot of work to make newcomers feel welcome."

Hart describes some of the awards.

"We have various awards going on such as the Welcoming Workplace award, we have a Lifetime Achievement award, so we're looking for someone or an individual there who has kind of through out their life here in our region, made an exceptional contribution to the community, or maybe they helped newcomer families, they've volunteered."

Hart explains how you can purchase tickets for this event.

"You can visit our website, that's at www.thehrnc.com. You can come in our office, which is at 636 9th street in Humboldt. Or you can give us a call at 682-4277."

Nominations close January 13th.
