Humboldt area residents will have two chances this month to have their say on which issues the Humboldt/Lanigan RCMP should tackle.

The detachment is holding public town hall meetings March 14 at the Humboldt Uniplex and March 21 at the Lanigan Legion Hall, both at 7 p.m. Humboldt and District Ambulance and the Humboldt Fire Department will also be present.

The meetings are part of a provincial RCMP project to meet face to face with the public to get direct input and provide an update on policing plans for the coming year, Staff Sgt. Adare Guest told Bolt FM. Anyone interested is more than welcome to come, he said.

“A lot of the things we do in the public obviously are driven by the public, so we want to make sure we get the voices from everybody out there. Have a better idea what it is that we do in the public, and get some input to help us figure out the direction we’re going to go for next year.”

Over the past year the detachment has been making sure members are more visible and getting out to all the communities they serve, he said.

They’ve also been keeping a close eye on repeat offenders.

“When they're put on court-ordered conditions, we have been sending our members out there to check to make sure they're abiding by their conditions. So if they’ve got curfews or they're not to attend certain locations, things of that nature, then our officers are checking to make sure they’re following those things,” Guest said.

The detachment is also part of a provincial police focus on impaired and distracted driving, he said.
