Fire up the band! Or, for now, the piano.

The Humboldt and District Music Festival gets underway Monday with piano performances for the first week.

"This is our 80th annual, so it is pretty exciting to celebrate the talent of our area once again," said Spokesperson Patti Durand. "It's going to be taking place at Jerome Assembly Hall at St. Peter's Abbey."

There will be three days of piano performances, with evening sessions to take place Monday and Wednesday.

Performances begin at 9:30am all three days.

Durand says that they are excited to have the show back.

"This is a pretty creative area in terms of talented musicians and we are really fortunate to have lots of active participants of all ages, as well as teachers who lead them and guide them as they perfect their art."

The festival is a three week showcase, and Durand says there is an easy option for those looking to check out more than one session.

"They can purchase their season tickets at Scotiabank in Humboldt. If you are planning to attend multiple events, that is a good option."

The season pass is $20, with a day pass at $10 and individual sessions costing $5.

Band, Strings and Guitar will be on May 1 and 2, with Vocal, Choral and Speech Arts running May 3-5. The final concert is set for May 8.
