City of Humboldt staff and management has had some more time to dive into the provincial budget and it's effects on their finances.

Mayor Rob Muench responded Wednesday afternoon following the tabling of the numbers but now they have a more concrete image of expenditures.

The revenue sharing formula with municipalities remains as is, the city will receive $1.1 million in 2017-18.

The "most concerning" announcement was the discontinuation of the grants-in-lieu program that the government pays instead of taxes on buildings such as Sasktel or SaskPower, that will take $375,000 of revenue away from the city.

That is the equivalent to a seven percent tax hike.

Cuts to the Urban Highway Connector Program were also announced, the city has received $548,000 over the last half decade for work on Highways 5 and 20, now repairs are burdened on Humboldt taxpayers and they drawbacks could impact their ability to pay for projects such as the realignment of 5th Avenue and Main Street.

These concerns will be discussed by council at their Monday meeting.

Final approval of Humboldt's budget is expected in April.
