Civic Park was busy on Tuesday night with the Labour Council Barbecue.

Residents of Humboldt gathered in Civic Park to enjoy a free barbecue put on by the Humboldt Labour Council.

The annual barbecue was held a day after Labour day this year, and invited everyone to come.

Free hot dogs and burgers were handed out, as well as fun for the kids with a bouncy castle.

Cori Norman is the president of the Humboldt Labour Council.

She talks about the history of Labour Day.

"On behalf of all people working, the day was set out to have a little bit of fun, and to understand the history of how we've become as unions and working-class people that our concerns have benefited all."

Norman explains what the Labour Council does for its members.

"We have SGEU, CUPE, SEU, SCIU, UCW, UNIFOR, and what we do is we work together to bring the concerns of the unions to a Provincial level and a National level."

Norman says Labour day is about celebrating how far unions have come.

"The benefits, the pensions, the health, the workplace safety, it's all been concerns of everyone in the working force. We're celebrating those successes today."

This was a free event for anyone who attended.
