People in Humboldt looking to shop local can do so every Saturday morning at the Community Gathering Place.

The Humboldt Farmers Market allows people to support farmers and producers in the area.

Gary Binder runs Rainbow Ridge Farms in Carmel.

He describes the average day for a vegetable farmer.

"In the mornings, before it gets too hot, we're out weeding. The weeds are awful this year. They're three to four feet high, we don't use any sprays, so everything has to be weeded by hand, so their is no weed killers on our stuff, or spray. We do it at night, we pick at night when it's cool, and finish off by picking more weeds."

Binder talks about the fresh produce that's now available.

"Basically all the stuff you get in the store is coming right now. Potatoes, beans, peas and zucchini. The fruit was busy week picking, we'll have apples, and the plums are coming. We still have the raspberries."

A wide array of produce is now becoming available, as the warm weather and common rain has allowed fruits and vegetables to ripen.

Binder explains the benefits of shopping local.

"Shopping local is for freshness, also knowing where your food is coming from. I think it also saves a lot on the environment by buying local. You're not using a lot of fuel to ship it from the U.S. and stuff, and the quality is a lot better buying local."

The Humboldt Farmer's Market sees 5 vendors and is open from 9 o'clock in the morning until noon every Saturday.
