With a couple hot days predicted for Humboldt and the surrounding area residents should be aware of the dangers surrounding the temperatures.

Dave Mortensen with Humboldt and District Ambulance Services breaks down what can happen if you get too much sun.

"The three most common heat emergencies we see are heat cramps, heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Obviously heat exhaustion and heat stroke are the worst of the three."

"With heat exhaustion we have moist skin, our body is sweating and it will be slightly elevated, the temperature," Mortensen explains about the potential effects. "The skin might be red or pale but the biggest key there is the moist, as long as we're sweating and we're feeling kind of icky and dizziness and that, or just upset stomach, we're probably into the heat exhaustion part."

Mortensen gives us some tips to avoid becoming ill.

"Make sure you are drinking plenty of cool fluids through out the day, avoid being outside during the hottest part of the day if you can, slow down your activities as it gets hotter so if you are working in the garden take some breaks in between, take frequent breaks in cool shaded areas."

Refraining from drinking caffeine and alcohol as well are tips Mortensen adds. He also encourages wearing light coloured clothes.

Wednesday's high is predicted to be 29 degrees, that could jump to 33 with the humidex, Thursday's high is 30, also 33 with the humidity.
