Any person that has ever donated or continues to donate blood to this day has a reason for doing it.

Dozens of people from Humboldt and surrounding area waited at the Jubilee Hall in Humboldt at the Uniplex to donate blood to those in need on September 17th.

When donating blood the first step is checking in to test the physical condition of the donor to see if the donation can be made. After the test, people can proceed to make their donation where a staff member will hook up the donor. About 500 millilitres is drawn from the donor's blood in about 10-20 minutes. Blood can be used for a variety of reasons, from someone who has been in an accident to people who have cancer. Each donor believed they had an obligation to donate for one reason and one reason only.

"It takes an hour of your time and it saves a lot of lives so everybody should do it. Every time, I make time to come, whether your busy or not, you got to make time," said one of the donors, waiting to give the 65th donation throughout his lifetime.

The Canadian Blood services were the ones receiving over 100 donations from people throughout Humboldt and the surrounding communities. The Saskatoon branch that was out accepting blood in Humboldt receives about 20,000 donations throughout the year. The next time you could donate blood in Humboldt is December 17th.
