Humboldt Collegiate Institute has some new funds on the way thanks to a successful drive event hosted by Colony Chevrolet GMC Buick and Buick Canada.

The drive, held on Saturday at the school, raised $5,000.

HCI teacher Yvonne Gueguen explains what the funds will go to.

"We're hoping to raise $10,000 today to support a breakfast program at our school. 50% of the funds raised today will go hopefully to a breakfast prgram and the other 50% will go to SRC initiatives here at the school."

Gueguen says the SRC does a lot for the school in hopes to make it better for everyone.

"We had a school dance this past year. We haven't had a school dance for quite a number of years. It was really good and it just builds community in our school."

Gueguen says she likes the idea of the test drive events.

"I've been involved with other drives in other schools I have worked at, and when we were approached to do this, I said 'Yes!' And our SRC stood behind it, and it's actually the SRC that organized this with my leadership and Mrs. Bergerman's leadership."

The School would like to thank Colony for helping with their fundraiser.
