Those impacted by Type 1 diabetes as well as their families gathered at the Uniplex for the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes Sunday morning.

The walk is to raise funds to find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes and to improve the lives of those who live with the disease.

Maria Strasser is involved in the organizing of the JDRF walk held in Humboldt every year, and as a parent of a child with Type 1 diabetes, she explains why people continue to join the walk every year.

"JDRF is committed to finding the reason why Type 1 Diabetes happens and to finding a cure. So for all of us families who have loved ones with Type 1, that's what we want. We want to see a cure."

Strasser explains what makes working with JDRF worth while.

"It's just so great to be a part of this organization. They are a fantastic group that raises money for Type 1 Diabetes. For every dollar raised, 80 cents goes directly to finding a cure for Diabetes so it's a great organization."

Every year, local families are chosen to be ambassadors for the walk.

This year's youth ambassador for the walk in Humboldt was Chloe Dreger from Watrous, who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 2015.

Her Mom Cindy describes what JDRF has meant to their family.

"They've helped raise money for a cure, for research. And basically just given us an outlet of a group of people that we can talk to, that share the same problems that we have."

Over 93 thousand people in Saskatchewan are impacted by Type 1 diabetes.

Over $35,000 was raised in the walk this year.
