A prison sentence of two and a half years has been laid down against a Hudson Bay man who defrauded the provincial Workers' Compensation Board.

69 year-old labourer Larry Hayter was sentenced in Melfort court on Thursday.

He was found guilty of filing two false claims and returning to work while still receiving WCB benefits. Hayter bilked the board out of over $137,000, the largest case of fraud against the WCB in Saskatchewan history.

Along with the prison term, he has to repay the amount of money he stole.
